Image Quality Issues: Blur, Dimness and Color Problems
Diagnose the three most common image complaints — blur, dimness and wrong colors — with causes ranging from lens film to ambient light shifts.
Blurry Image
- Re-run motorized focus; sharpen center first, then check edges
- Inspect the lens window for film, dust or fingerprints — clean gently
- If only edges blur on angled setups, that's depth of field: favor focus where the audience looks
- Check that keystone/corner correction hasn't been applied excessively (heavy correction softens detail)
Dim Image
- Compare with the day it was commissioned — has ambient light changed? New lamps, removed curtains, seasonal sun angles
- Clean the lens window; dust films cut output noticeably over months
- Check the power mode setting — ECO modes reduce brightness
- Lamp-based units dim with age; laser units (LED/laser source) maintain output far longer — if yours is aging, plan an upgrade
Wrong Colors / Tint
- Check the color mode setting (standard/vivid/s-cinema) — someone may have changed it
- Verify the source content color space matches the unit settings
- On surface-colored walls, tint is often the wall, not the projector — test on white
- If colors shifted after a repair or long operation, run the factory color reset
Escalate With Evidence
If the issue persists, photograph the image against a white test screen and note the unit model — then open a support ticket.
